80V, Hot-Swap Controller with PMBus Interface

Description

The MP5926 is a high-voltage hot-swap controller capable of operating with supplies ranging from 8V to 80V. The MP5926 provides a controlled soft start (SS) during hot insertion to ensure a controlled output voltage (V_OUT) ramp occurs.

The MP5926 provides over-current protection (OCP), over-power protection (OPP), over-temperature protection (OTP), and short-circuit protection (SCP). OCP supports two options: a circuit breaker and an active current-clamping mode. These values can be set via PMBus configuration.

The MP5926 supports discrete MOSFET hot-swap applications, providing a controlled SS turn-on. To further ensure that the external MOSFET's safe operating area (SOA) is controlled, the MP5926 implements a power limit (PL) and a configurable current limit during SS.

The MP5926 provides detailed fault handling and telemetry via the PMBus interface. The device's operation can be configured via the PMBus interface, providing more flexibility for device operation during SS and normal operation.

The MP5926 provides independent digital timers for OCP, OPP, retry delay, and insertion delay. This allows for each key parameter to be set to the optimal time operation without having to make a tradeoff to make one value work for three different modes.

The MP5926 is available in a TSSOP-28 (9.7mmx4.4mm) package.
