Dual-Loop, Digital, 1 + 1 Phase Controller with PMBus Interface for VR13.HC/AVSBus

Description

The MP2976 is a dual-loop, digital, multi-phase controller that provides power for the CPU core of VR13.HC platforms. It works with MPS’s and multiple vendors’ DrMOS products (including MPS’s Intelli-Phase^TM) to provide a multi-phase voltage regulator (VR) solution with a minimal number of external components. The device can be configured for single-phase operation for rail 1 and rail 2.

The MP2976 provides an on-chip non-volatile memory (NVM) to store and restore device configurations. Device configurations and fault parameters are easy to configure or monitor via the PMBus/I²C interface. The device can monitor and report the output current (I_OUT) through the current-sense (CS) output from DrMOS products.

The MP2976 is based on unique, digital, multi-phase, nonlinear control to provide fast transient response to load transients with minimal output capacitors. With only one power loop control method for both steady state and load transient, power loop compensation is simple to configure.

The MP2976 is available in a QFN-40 (5mmx5mm) package.
