Description
The MP2985B is a dual-loop, digital, multi-phase controller that provides power for the CPU core of VR14 and earlier platforms. The MP2985B works with MPS’s Intelli-PhaseTM products and other vendors’ DrMOS products to complete the multi-phase voltage regulator (VR) solution with a minimal number of external components. It can be configured for up to 8-phase operation.
The MP2985B provides an on-chip non-volatile memory (NVM) to store and restore device configurations. Device configurations and fault parameters can be easily configured or monitored via the PMBus/I2C interface. The device can monitor and report the output current (IOUT) through the current-sense (CS) output from DrMOS devices.
The MP2985B is based on unique, digital, multi-phase control to provide fast transient response to the load transient with minimal output capacitors. With only one power loop control method for both steady state and load transient response, power loop compensation is simple to configure.
The MP2985B is available in a TLGA-40 (5mmx5mm) package.
