Dual-Loop, Digital, Multi-Phase Controller for VR14.Cloud with PMBus Interface

Description

The MP2921 is a dual-loop, digital, multi-phase controller that provides power for the CPU core of VR14.Cloud and prior protocols. It works with MPS’s and multiple vendors’ DrMOS products to provide a multi-phase voltage regulator (VR) total solution with minimal external components. It can be configured up to 16-phase operation for rail 1 and 8-phase operation for rail 2.

The MP2921 provides an on-chip non-volatile memory (NVM) to store and restore device configurations. Device configurations and fault parameters are easy to configure and monitor via the PMBus/I²C interface. The device can monitor and report the output current (I_OUT) through the CS output from DrMOS products.

It is based on unique, digital, multi-phase nonlinear control to provide fast transient response to the load transient with minimal output capacitors. With only one power loop control method for both steady state and load transient response, the power loop compensation is very easy to configure.

The MP2921 is available in a QFN-56 (7mmx7mm) package.
