Description
The MP591P1 is a fully integrated hot-swap protection device. It contains a hot-swap controller and a high-side power MOSFET (HS-FET), which allows it to operate as a standalone device. The MP591P1 can also operate in parallel for high-current applications. The device can achieve up to 60A of continuous output current (IOUT) per device at room temperature.
The device limits the backplane voltage drop by limiting the inrush current to the load while a circuit card is inserted into a live backplane power source. It limits the internal MOSFET current (IFET) by controlling the gate voltage (VGATE) via the current limit (ILIMIT) reference input and soft-start (SS) ramp.
The MP591P1 provides many features to simplify system design, such as an integrated current mirror to monitor IOUT and integrated on-die temperature-sensing. This eliminates the need for an external current-sense power resistor, power MOSFET, and temperature-sense device.
It also features rich fault protections, such as input voltage (VIN) over-voltage protection (OVP), IOUT over-current protection (OCP), short-circuit protection (SCP), and over-temperature protection (OTP). The device detects the power MOSFET gate, source, and drain short conditions. The fault status can be indicated with the fault report output (FLTB). Power good (PG) indication is also provided.
The MP591P1 is available in an LGA-33 (5mmx5mm) package.
