Single-Phase, Digital Step-Down Converter for VR14.Cloud with PMBus Interface

Description

The MP9946 is a single-rail, 1-phase, digital step-down converter for the power rail of VR14.Cloud and prior protocols. It builds in MPS’s Intelli-Phase^TM to achieve up to 20A of continuous output current (I_OUT) and high efficiency across a wide input voltage (V_IN) range.

The device can operate from 300kHz to 2MHz, and comes with general-purpose current-sensing and temperature-sensing.

The MP9946 provides on-chip Eflash to store application configurations. The configurations and fault information are easy to configure or monitor through the PMBus interface. The MP9946 can monitor and report I_OUT.

The device is based on a unique digital nonlinear control to provide fast load transient response with minimal output capacitors. With only one power loop control method for both steady state and load transient, the loop compensation parameter is very easy to configure.

The MP9946 is available in a TLGA-33 (4mmx5mm) package.
