MP2645A

The MP2645A is a 5-cell, highly integrated, bidirectional, buck-boost active balancer with a novel, MPS-patented topology.

A single MP2645A can redistribute charge between 5 series cells, including Li-ion, Li-polymer, and LiFePO₄ batteries or super capacitors. The MP2645A operates with 2 to 5 cells and tolerates stack voltages up to 40V. The MP2645A can be configured for up to 3A of charge redistribution.

As an alternative to dissipating energy with passive balancing, the MP2645A efficiently moves charge between cells with much faster balancing and minimal heat generation. The MP2645A can also compensate for cell capacity mismatch to extend battery runtime. By overlapping multiple MP2645A devices, active balancing can be achieved across long, high-voltage battery stacks.

The MP2645A is easily controlled via a simple, robust, one-wire interface. A stacking feature allows up to 8 series devices, balancing up to 33 series cells, to be operated from a single control signal.

The MP2645A is available in a QFN-19 (4mmx4mm) package.
