The MPQ3368-AEC1 is a step-up controller with 8-channel current sources. The device is designed to drive white LED (WLED) arrays as backlighting for middle- or small-sized LCD panels.

The device uses peak current mode as its pulse-width modulation (PWM) control architecture to regulate the boost converter. 8-channel current sources are applied to the LED cathode to adjust LED brightness. The device regulates the current in each LED string to the value set by an external current-setting resistor, with 2.5% current regulation accuracy between strings.

It employs a strong gate driver signal for an external MOSFET with selectable rising and falling times. The device has a standard I²C digital interface for ease of use. The switching frequency (f_SW) can be configured via a resistor, I²C interface, or external clock. A low headroom voltage is provided to improve efficiency and IC thermal performance.

The MPQ3368-AEC1 provides analog, PWM, and mixed dimming modes through the PWM input or internal registers. The dimming mode can be selected via the I²C interface. The device also has a phase-shift function to reduce inrush current and eliminate audible noise during PWM dimming.

Rich protections are designed to guarantee the safe operation of the device. These protections include over-current protection (OCP), over-voltage protection (OVP), over-temperature protection (OTP), V_OUT-to-GND short protection, LEDx-to-GND short protection, and LED short and open protection. In addition, the LED current (I_LEDx, where x = 1–8) decreases automatically via detection on the negative temperature coefficient (NTC) pin.

The MPQ3368-AEC1 is available in a QFN-24 (4mmx4mm) package, and is available in AEC-Q100 Grade 1.
