The EVQ3368-R-00A is designed to evaluate the capabilities of the MPQ3368-AEC1, a step-up controller with 8-channel current sources. The device is designed to drive white LED (WLED) arrays as backlighting for mid- or small-sized LCD panels.
The device uses peak-current mode as its pulse-width modulation (PWM) control architecture to regulate the boost converter. 8-channel current sources are applied to the LED cathode to adjust LED brightness. The MPQ3368-AEC1 regulates the current in each LED string to the value set by an external current-setting resistor, with 2.5% current regulation accuracy between strings.
The MPQ3368-AEC1 employs a strong gate driver signal for the external MOSFET with a selected rising/falling time. The device has a standard I2C digital interface for simple use. The switching frequency (fSW) can be configured via a resistor, I2C interface, or external clock. A low headroom voltage is provided to improve efficiency and IC thermal performance.
The MPQ3368-AEC1 provides analog, PWM, and mixed dimming modes through the PWM input or internal register. The dimming mode can be selected via the I2C interface. The device also has a phase-shift function to reduce inrush current and eliminate audible noise during PWM dimming.
Rich protections are designed to guarantee safe device operation. Protection modes include over-current protection (OCP), over-voltage protection (OVP), over-temperature protection (OTP), VOUT-to GND short protection, LEDx-to-GND short protection, LED short and open protection, and the LED current (ILEDx, where x = 1–8) decreases automatically by detecting the NTC pin.
The MPQ3368-AEC1 is available in a QFN-24 (4mmx4mm) package, and is available in AEC-Q100 Grade 1. The EVQ3368-R-00A is a fully assembled evaluation board.
