MP591C3

The MP591C3 is a fully integrated, compact hot-swap protection device with back-to-back FETs. It contains a hot-swap controller and two high-side back-to-back power MOSFETs (HS-FETs), which allow it to operate as a standalone device. The device can achieve up to 16A of continuous output current (I_OUT).

The device limits the backplane voltage drop by limiting the inrush current to the load while a circuit card is inserted into a live backplane power source. It also provides reverse-current blocking, which prevents current from flowing from the output (V_OUT) to the input (V_IN). The MP591C3 limits the internal MOSFET current (I_FET) by controlling the gate voltage (V_GATE) via the current limit (I_LIMIT) reference input and soft-start (SS) ramp.

The MP591C3 provides many features to simplify system design, such as an integrated current mirror to monitor I_OUT and integrated on-die temperature-sensing. This eliminates the need for an external current-sense (CS) power resistor, power MOSFET, and temperature-sense device. 

Rich fault protections include V_IN over-voltage protection (OVP), I_OUT over-current protection (OCP), short-circuit protection (SCP), and over-temperature protection (OTP). The fault status can be indicated with the fault report output (FLTB).  

The MP591C3 is available in a TLGA-25 (4mmx4mm) package.
