Description
The MP44019 is a CrM/DCM multi-mode PFC controller that provides simple and high-performance active power factor correction using a minimal number of external components.
The MP44019 features a very low supply current that allows the device to achieve low standby power loss. The typical no-load power loss is below 50mW.To improve light-load efficiency, dead time extension technology is utilized to reduce the switching frequency under light loads.
The device achieves lower total harmonic distortion (THD) due to variable on time control in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), when compared to conventional constant-on-time (COT) control.
Multi-protection functionality enhances the safety and reliability of the system. The MP44019 provides over-voltage protection (OVP), second OVP (OVP2), over-current limit (OCL), over-current protection (OCP), under-voltage protection (UVP), brown-in (BI) and brownout (BO), VCC under-voltage lockout (UVLO), and over-temperature protection (OTP).
The MP44019 is available in an SOIC-8 package.

DESIGNING A PFC CIRCUIT TO REDUCE HARMONIC DISTORTIONARTICLEGeneral industrial electricity bills run much higher than residential electricity bills. From a technical point of view, the high transmission cost for industrial power results from high-power inductive or capacitive loads, which have a lower power factor (PF) than residential electrical equipment. This means that residential electricity is less expensive because it generally uses small- and mediu...

POWER FACTOR CORRECTIONARTICLEPower factor is defined as the ratio of energy a device is capable of transmitting to the output versus the total amount of energy it takes from the input power source. It is a key figure of merit for the design of electrical devices, especially due to the regulations put in place by countries and international organizations like the EU, which define the minimum power factor or maximum level of ha...
