Description
The MP44020 is a multi-mode, critical condution mode (CrM)/discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) power factor correction (PFC) controller that provides simple, high-performance active PFC using minimal external components. The device offers lower total harmonic current distortion (THD) and near-unity power factor (PF) by utilizing a variable on-time control solution through the THD and PF optimizer compared to conventional constant-on-time (COT) control.
The MP44020 reduces the switching frequency (fSW) using dead time (DT) extension technology under light loads, thus improving light-load efficiency. It offers options that do not use burst mode, which can eliminate PFC output voltage (VOUT) fluctuations under light-load conditions to avoid flickering in LED applications.
Comprehensive protections enhance the safety and reliability of the system, including over-voltage protection (OVP), over-current limiting (OCL), over-current protection (OCP), under -voltage protection (UVP), brown-in and brownout (BI and BO, respectively), VCC voltage (VCC) under-voltage lockout (UVLO), and over-temperature protection (OTP).
The MP44020 is available in an SOIC-8 package.
