Description

The MPQ7227-AEC1 is a 24-channel, smart linear LED driver. Each channel is rated for up to 100mA of current, and 32 ICs can be cascaded to create a 768-channel solution. The device is optimized for animated or dynamic lighting applications. It employs 12-bit pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming and a 6-bit analog dimming register per channel, enabling individual control of each channel. The 24 channels can be assigned up to 4 different groups with independent dimming frequencies and duty cycles. The LED (I_LED) current ramp rate and the phase shift between channels during PWM dimming can also be digitally configured. The MPQ7227-AEC1 is designed to function across distant PCBs via a robust high-speed UART-over-CAN interface.

The device features digital adaptive feedback control^TM (DAFC^TM) to maximize system efficiency and thermal performance. An integrated 8-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) can sense the LED string voltage (V_LEDX), so the output voltage of the pre-regulator (e.g. buck voltage regulator) can be adjusted based on this sensed voltage. The voltage across the channels can be minimized to a value determined by the headroom voltage.

The MPQ7227-AEC1 protection features include LED open/short protection, ISET pin open/short protection, and over-temperature protection (OTP). If a fault condition occurs, the fault indicator (/FS) pin is pulled low, and a matching fault register is set. A part enters a Limp Home state if communication is lost.

The MPQ7227-AEC1 is available in a TQFP-48 (7mmx7mm) package, and is available in AEC-Q100 Grade 1.
