The EVHFG612-2-MP9985-00A evaluation board is designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the HFG612, a quasi-resonant (QR) flyback regulator with integrated GaN HEMT, which is suitable for high-performance, high-frequency designs. The key feature of the HFG612 family is lossless current-sensing, which eliminates the need for external current-sense resistors and guarantees higher efficiency.
The HFG612 is a secondary-side regulation (SSR)-based primary regulator, which must work with secondary-side feedback (FB) circuitry. The HFG612 has intelligent modes for continuous conduction mode (CCM), QR, or discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) under different input and output conditions, which enables high efficiency across the wide power range.
The HFG612 integrates high-voltage start-up and X-capacitor discharger circuits with ultra-low quiescent current (IQ) in burst mode. The standby power consumption can be less than 30mW.
The HFG612 adopts MPS's patented valley lock technique to restrain jumping from one valley to another during steady state, which eliminates audible noise.
The wide VCC voltage (VCC) range makes it suitable for applications with a wide output voltage (VOUT) range without the need for extra auxiliary winding.
The MP9985 is a fast turn-off intelligent rectifier for flyback converters that integrates a 100V/10mΩ MOSFET. It can replace a diode rectifier for higher efficiency and power density. The chip regulates the internal power MOSFET’s forward voltage drop (VFWD) to 40mV and turns off before the drain-to-source voltage (VDS) reverses.
The MP9985 can generate its own supply voltage without the need for auxiliary winding, which makes it well-suited for charger applications with a low VOUT requirement, as well as any other adapter application with a high-side set-up. Internal ringing detection circuitry prevents the MP9985 from falsely turning on during DCM or QR operation.
The EVHFG612-2-MP9985-00A evaluation board provides a reference design for a universal, offline, isolated power supply with a 20V/3.25A, 15V/3A, 12V/3A, 9V/3A, or 5V/3A output.
