The EV4898A-BV-03A is an evaluation board designed for the MP4898A, a high-voltage, 128-channel analog switch. The MP4898A is designed for medical ultrasound applications. It can also be used for non-destructive tests (NDTs), as this application is very similar to medical ultrasound.
The high-voltage, analog switches are used to multiplex the transmitter and receiver circuitries to different piezoelectric transducer (PZT) elements. The 128 switches are configured as 64 1:2 multiplexers and demultiplexers.
There are 64 switch inputs. Each switch input is connected to two switch outputs (SWOUTA and SWOUTB) for a total of 128 switch outputs. All switch outputs have integrated bleed resistors connected to ground. This ensures that a significant DC voltage does not build up across the PZT element. The MP4898A is controlled by two 64-bit serial shift registers, followed by two 64-bit latches. The switches can be turned on/off via the two 64-bit serial shift registers. The serial control interface minimizes the number of input/output (I/O) connections.
The EV4898A-BV-03A has two discrete high-voltage transmitters (TX1 and TX2) that are connected to the MP4898A’s input (SWIN) to help evaluate the MP4898A’s performance.
The EV4898A-BV-03A is designed to work with MPS’s ultrasound controller board (EV-EVKRD-01A). A graphical user interface (GUI) is provided to easily control the analog switch states, transmitters (TX1 and TX2), pulse widths, and pulse cycles.
