Description
The MPQ1918-AEC1 is designed to drive enhancement mode Gallium Nitride (GaN) FETs or N-channel MOSFETs with a low gate threshold voltage in a half-bridge or synchronous application.
The MPQ1918-AEC1 features independent high-side (HS) and low-side (LS) pulse-width modulation (PWM) inputs. It also provides a bootstrap technique for the HS driver voltage, and can operate up to 100V. The new charging technology prevents the HS driver voltage from exceeding the VCC voltage (VCC), which prevents the gate voltage from exceeding the GaN FET’s maximum gate-to-source voltage rating.
The MPQ1918-AEC1 has two separate gate outputs, allowing the turn-on and turn-off capabilities to be independently adjusted by adding an impedance to the gate loop. The MPQ1918-AEC1 can operate up to several MHz.
The MPQ1918-AEC1 is available in an FCQFN-14 (3mmx3mm) package with wettable flanks.

DESIGNING MULTIPLE INDEPENDENT AUXILIARY POWER SUPPLIES WITH MAGNETIC ISOLATIONARTICLEIn a DC/DC converter, the auxiliary power supply of multiple switching devices requires independent isolated power supplies. Taking a full-bridge converter as an example, the high-side and low-side MOSFETs (HS-FETs and LS-FETs, respectively) of the bridge arm require isolated power supplies for the gate driver circuit. The traditional scheme uses a bootstrap circuit to power supply both the upper ...

OPTIMIZING POWER SUPPLY EFFICIENCY WITH MOSFET SELECTIONARTICLEWhen designing power supplies, it is always critical to optimize the design for efficiency. Increased efficiency saves energy, reduces heat generation, and can even reduce the power supply’s size. This article will discuss how to choose the ratio between the number of high-side MOSFETs (HS-FETs) and low-side MOSFETs (LS-FETs) to improve efficiency in power supply designs. Figure 1 shows a simpli...

MPS’S OPEN-SOURCE EMERGENCY VENTILATOR WITH EMOTIONTM AND BATTERY BACKUPARTICLEAs COVID-19 spread in March of 2020, the global shortage of emergency ventilators was one of the biggest concerns. The increasing demand in ventilators meant they would soon be out of supply, so a team at Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) sought to help create a solution to this crisis. While MPS is not a medical device manufacturer, its engineers and designers are highly experienced with power elect...
