The MP2787 is an analog front-end (AFE) monitoring device. The device supports connections for 7-cell to 16-cell in series battery packs, with an absolute voltage exceeding 80V on particular pins. The device supports I2C or SPI communication.
The MP2787 integrates two separate analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The first ADC measures each channel’s differential cell voltages (up to 16 channels), die temperature, and 4-channel temperature via an external NTC thermistor. The second ADC measures the charge/discharge current via an external current-sense resistor.
The MP2787 features monitoring alarm functions, such as over-current (OC) interrupt, short-circuit (SC) interrupt, battery under-voltage (UV) interrupt, battery over-voltage (OV) interrupt, and high/low temperature interrupt. All of the alarms have configurable thresholds.
Integrated balancing FETs equalize mismatched cells, with the option to drive the external balancing FETs. For applications requiring compliance with IPC 2221B or UL 60950-1, conformal coating might be required depending on the pack voltage.
The MP2787 is available in a TQFP-48 (7mmx7mm) package.
