The MP2722 switch-mode battery management device integrates USB Type-C dual-role power (DRP) mode detection, which achieves faster charging and improved functionality for portable digital cameras, including universal charging, bidirectional charging/discharging, and the ability to power external devices.
The limited battery and runtime of portable digital cameras are disruptive to the user experience, necessitating bulky external chargers or frequent recharging. As the power demands of portable digital cameras continue to grow, designers must develop battery management systems that can provide a reliable power source for extended usage without compromising efficiency and the compact form factor. Battery issues can also result in overheating, which may potentially damage internal components and corrupt the memory card.
The MP2722 switch-mode battery management device integrates USB Type-C dual-role power (DRP) mode detection, which achieves faster charging and improved functionality for portable digital cameras, including universal charging, bidirectional charging/discharging, and the ability to power external devices. The device’s highly integrated narrow-voltage DC (NVDC) power management structure optimizes charging efficiency and reduces battery charging time. In addition, the MP2722’s configurable output current (IOUT) limit loop up to 3A prevents excessive current draw and helps maintain a stable power supply. The MP2722 is available in a small QFN-22 (2.5mmx3.5mm) package.
