Description

The MA782 detects the absolute angular position of a permanent magnet (typically a diametrically magnetized cylinder on a rotating shaft). With its power-cycling ability, the sensor is optimized for applications requiring low average power. The timing can be controlled by an on-chip clock or by an external controller. Flags are available for detecting a definable amount of angle change.

The MA782 supports a wide range of magnetic field strengths and spatial configurations. Both end-of-shaft and off-axis (side-shaft) mounting configurations are supported. The MA782 features magnetic field strength detection with programmable thresholds to allow the sensing of the magnet position relative to the sensor, for functions such as the sensing of axial movements or for diagnostics.

The on-chip non-volatile memory (NVM) provides storage for configuration parameters, including the reference zero-angle position, the power-cycling parameters, the filter window affecting the output resolution, and the magnetic field detection thresholds. The MA782 is available in a QFN-14 (2mmx2mm) package.

The TBMA782-Q-LT-00A is the long test board for the MagAlpha magnetic position sensor MA782, the world's smallest absolute ICEncoder^TM. The sensor is mounted on the edge of the board, and can be used in both side-shaft and end-of-shaft configurations.

It requires the communications kit (EVKT-MACOM) and the Macom App Software (see below) to evaluate MagAlpha functionality and performance with your set-up, such as noise level, refresh rate, power-up time, and magnetic field dependence.

In addition to this long test board, there is a round format version (RD) where the sensor is mounted in the center of the board for end-of-shaft configurations.
