Description
The MP2640 is a highly integrated, bidirectional active balancer that enables high current charge redistribution among Li-ion, Li-polymer, or lithium iron phosphate batteries in a two-series battery pack. It also minimizes energy loss and heat. For large battery systems, active balancing dramatically speeds up the balancing process with high efficiency and allows for capacity recovery in stacks of mismatched batteries.
The MP2640 can balance adjacent batteries in the stack with two operation modes: buck balance mode and boost balance mode. If MODE is low, the MP2640 works in forward buck balance mode and transfers the mismatch energy from the upper cell (CU) to the lower cell (CL). If MODE is high, the MP2640 works in reverse boost balance mode and transfers the mismatch energy from CL to CU.
To guarantee safe operation, the MP2640 provides CL and CU over-voltage protection (OVP), under-voltage protection (UVP), thermal shutdown, and battery temperature monitoring.
The MP2640 is available in a QFN-26 (4mmx4mm) package.
