This use case examines the application of the MPQ5850-AEC1 in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The MPQ5850-AEC1 can be used to protect the vehicle’s ADAS from irreparable damage in the case of reverse input or crossed wires.
Electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles integrate ADAS, which is comprised of various technologies that enhance the driving experience and safety. Since ADAS requires more sophisticated and heavier components, it is integral to protect the system from worst-case battery transients, such as negative voltage or negative current flow.
The MPQ5850-AEC1 is placed between the vehicle’s battery and electronics to drive an external N-channel MOSFET, which replaces a Schottky diode. This allows current to smoothly flow to the vehicle’s electronics. If a reverse input occurs, the MPQ5850-AEC1 pulls down the GATE pin to turn off the N-channel MOSFET quickly. The MPQ5850-AEC1 can be used to protect the vehicle’s ADAS from irreparable damage in the case of reverse input or crossed wires.
Furthermore, the MPQ5850-AEC1 provides the fastest response time in the industry, leading to AC frequency rectification up to 100kHz. The MPQ5850-AEC1 can also deliver ultra-low system voltage dropout as low as 20mV and operate in cold-crank conditions as low as 0V. Overall, the MPQ5850-AEC1’s features offer robust protection against automotive transients, minimize power loss, and reduce board size in a compact TSOT23-8 (2mmx3mm) package.
Additional features include:
- -36V Blocking Voltage
- Load Dump Up to 42V
- Strong Gate Drive Ability: 170mA Pull-Up and 430mA Pull-Down
- Low Quiescent Current (IQ) in Standby Mode (4μA)
- Low IQ in Steady State (30μA)
- Integrated Boost Converter
- Power Good (PG) Indication for RES Out of Regulation, Fast Pull-Up, and Part Disabling
- Available in AEC-Q100 Grade 1
In addition, MPS offers the MPQ4323-AEC1 for ADAS applications. The MPQ4323-AEC1 is a configurable-frequency (350kHz to 2.5MHz), synchronous, step-down switching converter that is available in QFN-12 (2mmx3mm) and QFN-12 (3mmx4mm) packages. Its wide 3V to 36V input voltage (VIN) range and 42V load dump tolerance accommodate a variety of step-down applications in automotive input environments.
