Multiple MPC22167-130 devices can be paired with first-stage power modules to support end-to-end power solutions that meet the high-power requirements of AI processors in open accelerator module form factors.
Interest in AI computing is growing astronomically as the market finds increasingly sophisticated ways to use supercomputers for new applications such as autonomous driving, automated customer service operations, and predictive maintenance. These applications have increased the power requirements of supercomputers. With the increasing current demand of CPUs and GPUs, designers are often left with very small areas on the board to fit multiple phases of voltage regulators (VRs).
The MPC22167-130, the latest offering of MPS’s Intelli-ModuleTM family, is a two-phase step-down power module. Its design integrates the DrMOS, inductor, and other passive components into one package. The reduced footprint increases power density by 2.5 times and allows placement of VRs closer to the processor to reduce power distribution network (PDN) losses (see Figure 2).

Multiple MPC22167-130 devices can be paired with first-stage power modules to support end-to-end power solutions that meet the high-power requirements of AI processors in open accelerator module form factors. Figure 3 shows one such example of a reference design featuring the MPC22167-130.
Figure 3: 2000A OAM Form Factor Reference Design with 54V Input and 0.8V Output
This reference design can be applied for AI processors in OAM form factors and uses the MPC22167-130 to support a maximum output current (IOUT) of 2000A, with a combination of first-stage power modules and second-stage Intelli-ModuleTM devices. For the second stage, the design uses the MPC22167-130 combined with the MP2891, a 16-phase controller.
Additional features include:
- 4V to 16V Input Voltage (VIN) Range
- Up to 130A of Continuous Output Current (IOUT)
- Accu-SenseTM Current Sense
- Temperature Sense
- Accepts Tri-State Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) Signal
- Quiet SwitcherTM Technology (QST) Limits Peak Switching Voltages
- Current-Limit Protection
- Over-Temperature Protection (OTP)
- Fault Reporting
- Typical Weight: 3.5g
