This use case considers the application of the MP6602 in manufacturing and industrial equipment.
The MP6602’s microstepping technique minimizes the impact of resonance by achieving higher resolution, damping effects, smoother current, and reduced vibration.
The ability to drive motors with efficiency and precision is key in manufacturing and industrial equipment. Common applications for stepper motors include 3D printers, laser printers and copiers, and textile machines. To optimize stepper motor drives used in manufacturing and industrial machinery, designers must consider the issue of resonance that occurs when the motor and driver signals reach the same frequency. The resulting noise and vibration can degrade the overall accuracy and performance, in addition to causing missed steps.
The MP6602 is a stepper motor driver that can operate a bipolar or unipolar stepper motor up to 1/32-step modes. The MP6602’s microstepping technique minimizes the impact of resonance by achieving higher resolution, damping effects, smoother current, and reduced vibration. It also offers a serial control interface that sets control modes—including step mode, direction, and output current—and can measure the motor’s back EMF (BEMF). Internal safety and diagnostic functions include rotor stall detection, open load detection, over-current protection (OCP), input over-voltage protection (OVP) and under-voltage protection (UVP), thermal warning, and thermal shutdown.
Additional features include:
- 4.5V to 35V Operating Input Voltage (VIN) with 40V Absolute Maximum
- Two Internal Full-Bridge Drivers
- Internal Current-Sensing and Regulation
- Low On Resistance (RDS(ON)):
- 60mΩ High-Side MOSFET (HS-FET)
- 30mΩ Low-Side MOSFET (LS-FET)
