This use case examines the application of the MPQ4323-AEC1 synchronous buck converter in infotainment systems.

The MPQ4323-AEC1 is an automotive-grade, synchronous step-down converter that offers a wide 3.3V to 36V input voltage range (VIN) and high power conversion efficiency across a wide load range, which can significantly reduce the power consumption of advanced infotainment systems.

The sophisticated features of automotive infotainment systems — such as processors, high-resolution displays, and graphics-intensive applications — require high power consumption that often exceed the system’s battery capacity. Each increase per GHz to run processors in advanced infotainment systems leads to a corresponding increase in power consumption. Similarly, a high-resolution display can require up to 50% of additional power consumption compared to a standard display . With the increasing power consumption of automotive infotainment systems, designers are facing a difficult tradeoff between ramping up performance and minimizing power loss in the power conversion circuitry.

The MPQ4323-AEC1 is an automotive-grade, synchronous step-down converter that offers a wide 3.3V to 36V input voltage range (VIN) and high power conversion efficiency across a wide load range, which can significantly reduce the power consumption of advanced infotainment systems. The synchronous buck converter is capable of switching at high frequencies to avoid creating interferences in the AM radio frequency band. Switching at high frequencies also enables the use of smaller passive components , resulting in reduced solution size and cost. Robust protections include over-current protection (OCP) in hiccup mode and thermal shutdown.

The MPQ4323-AEC1 is available in QFN-12 (2mmx3mm) and QFN-12 (3mmx4mm) packages. The MPQ4324-AEC1 synchronous, step-down switching converter is also available in a QFN-14 (2.5mmx3.5mm) package in addition to the QFN-12 package options.
