The EVQ3366C-R-00A is an evaluation board designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the MPQ3366C-AEC1, a 6-channel, step-up controller that drives white LED (WLED) arrays as backlighting for medium-sized or small-sized LCD panels.
The MPQ3366C-AEC1 uses peak current mode as its pulse-width modulation (PWM) control architecture to regulate the boost converter. Six channel current sources are applied to the LED cathode to adjust LED brightness. The MPQ3366C-AEC1 regulates the current in each LED string (ILEDx, where x = 1–6) to the value set by an external current-setting resistor, with 2.5% current regulation accuracy between strings.
The MPQ3366C-AEC1 employs a strong gate driver signal for an external MOSFET with a selected rising/falling time. The device has a standard I2C digital interface for simple use. The switching frequency (fSW) can be configured via a resistor, I2C interface, or external clock. A low headroom voltage is provided to improve efficiency and IC thermal performance.
The MPQ3366C-AEC1 provides analog, PWM, and mixed dimming modes through a PWM input or internal registers. The dimming mode can be selected via the I2C interface. The device also has a phase-shift function to reduce inrush current and eliminate audible noise during PWM dimming.
Rich protections are designed to guarantee safe device operation. The protection modes include over-current protection (OCP), over-voltage protection (OVP), over-temperature protection (OTP), VOUT short-to-GND protection, LEDx short-to-GND protection, and LED short and open protection. In addition, ILEDx decreases automatically by detecting the NTC pin.
The EVQ3366C-R-00A is a fully assembled evaluation board. The MPQ3366C-AEC1 is available in a QFN-24 (4mmx4mm) package, and is available in AEC-Q100 Grade 1.
