The EV2891-87006-PWM-VID-01A is an evaluation board designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the MP2891 family (including the MP2891, MP2891B, and MP2891D), a dual-rail, digital, multi-phase controller that provides power PWM-VID core power. It is also compliant with an AVSBus interface.

The MP2891 can work with MPS’s Intelli-Phase^TM products to complete the multi-phase voltage regulator (VR) solution with a minimal number of external components. The MP2891 can be configured for up to 16-phase operation on rail 1 and 8-phase operation on rail 2.

The MP2890 is similar to the MP2891, but it can be configured for up to 20-phase operation on rail 1 and 8-phase operation on rail 2. The EV2891-87006-PWM-VID-01A supports the MP2891 family and the MP2890.

The MP2891 provides an on-chip non-volatile memory (NVM) to store and restore device configurations. Device configurations and fault parameters can be easily configured or monitored via the PMBus/I²C interface. The MP2891 can monitor and report the output current (I_OUT) through the current-sense (CS) output from Intelli-Phase^TM products.

The MP2891 is based on unique, digital, multi-phase, nonlinear control to provide a fast transient response to the load transient with minimal output capacitors. With only one power loop control method for both steady state and load transient, power loop compensation is easy to configure.

The MP2891 is available in a QFN-56 (7mmx7mm) package. The MP2890 is available in a QFN-64 (8mmx8mm) package.
