Description
The MPQ3445-AEC1 is a high-efficiency, current-mode, synchronous boost controller with a wide input voltage (VIN) range. It can be used as a pre-boost controller to maintain the output voltage (VOUT) from a vehicle battery during automotive cranking or from a backup battery. The MPQ3445-AEC1 has the capability to drive 10V MOSFETs, greatly improving efficiency and minimizing power loss.
The MPQ3445-AEC1 provides either a configurable I2C (default) or SPI interface to configure some key operating parameters, such as the switching frequency (fSW), current limit, light-load mode, frequency spread spectrum (FSS), dead time (DT), and slope compensation. fSW can be adjusted from 250kHz to 2.5MHz or synchronized directly to an external source.
In the event that VOUT exceeds the preset bypass threshold and VIN exceeds VOUT at the same time, the MPQ3445-AEC1 operates in low quiescent current (IQ) bypass mode. When VOUT falls below the wake threshold, the part exits bypass mode and resumes normal operation with the high-side MOSFET and low-side MOSFET (HS-FET and LS-FET, respectively) switching to regulate the output. Protection features include under-voltage lockout (UVLO), current limit, and thermal shutdown.
The MPQ3445-AEC1 is available in a QFN-21 (5mmx5mm) package with wettable flanks, and is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS TO SUSTAIN AUTOMOTIVE CRANK CONDITIONSARTICLEModern vehicles using 12V battery systems are subjected to a number of transient conditions. Some transients involve high-voltage pulses, while others may be under low-voltage conditions. Crank transients are low-voltage conditions that occur when a car engine starts, and the car battery drops several volts below its normal operating range for a brief time. The requirements to maintain normal veh...
