Description
The MPQ3413 is a high-efficiency, synchronous, current mode step-up converter with output disconnect. The MPQ3413 can start up from an input voltage (VIN) as low as 2.8V, and provides inrush current limiting and output short-circuit protection (SCP).
The integrated P-channel synchronous rectifier (SR) improves efficiency and eliminates the requirement of an external Schottky diode. The MPQ3413’s P-channel MOSFET disconnects the output from the input when the MPQ3413 shuts down. The output disconnect feature allows the output to be discharged completely, allowing the MPQ3413 to draw a supply current below 1μA in shutdown mode.
The 2.2MHz switching frequency (fSW) allows for smaller external components, while internal compensation and soft start (SS) minimize the external component count. These features result in a compact solution across a wide current load range.
The MPQ3413 features an integrated power MOSFET that supports a 5V output voltage (VOUT) and a peak switching current above 1.5A.
The MPQ3413 is available in a small TSOT23-8 package.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS TO SUSTAIN AUTOMOTIVE CRANK CONDITIONSARTICLEModern vehicles using 12V battery systems are subjected to a number of transient conditions. Some transients involve high-voltage pulses, while others may be under low-voltage conditions. Crank transients are low-voltage conditions that occur when a car engine starts, and the car battery drops several volts below its normal operating range for a brief time. The requirements to maintain normal veh...

AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRONICS RELIABILITY TESTING STARTS AND ENDS WITH THE MISSION PROFILEARTICLEAutomakers must design vehicles to thrive in a broad spectrum of environments, from snowy tundras to scorching deserts. Unlike most consumer applications, where the expected lifespan can be months, automotive electronics are often expected to last 15 years or more. When specifying a vehicle component, it is common for OEMs and their suppliers to develop an automotive mission profile, which is esse...

EASY, COST-EFFECTIVE PRE-BOOSTER FOR AUTOMOTIVE COLD CRANK CONDITIONSARTICLEStart-stop functionality is expected to be featured in more and more new car models from any manufacturer. However, this presents a challenge in automotive electronics design as starting the motor in cold weather can make the battery’s voltage drop as low as 3V. This is called a “cold crank.” The power stage for most 12V automotive systems consists of a single buck converter tha...

MPQ3910A REFERENCE DESIGN - HIGH VOLTAGE BOOST FOR APD IN LIDAR APPLICATIONSREFERENCE DESIGN.article-page .article-sub> Autonomous vehicles have been a hot topic for some time, but now they are staring to become a reality. To enable high degrees of autonomy, vehicles are using combined methods (cameras, radar, and LiDAR) to detect surroundings. LiDAR is a ranged device. It functions similarly to radar, but uses light waves instead of RF waves. A laser diode emits ligh...
