Description
The MP8021 is an IEEE 802.3af/at/bt compliant Power over Ethernet (PoE) powered device (PD). The device supports all the functions of IEEE 802.3af/at/bt, including detection, 5-event classification, inrush current (IINRUSH) control, and an external hot-swap MOSFET driver.
During the start-up period, The MP8021 limits the hot-swap current below the inrush current limit. The device fully turns it on after the inrush period finishes. The MP8021 features an intelligent maintain power signature (MPS) function and input under-voltage lockout (UVLO) with a wide hysteresis.
The integrated I2C interface can read back the mark event number and monitor the real-time power. The MP8021 can also set the power priority between dual-port PoE supplies or between the PoE and a DC auxiliary supply for seamless fail-over backup applications.
The MP8021 is available in a TQFN-20 (5mmx5mm) package.

POWER OVER ETHERNET (POE) POWER SUPPLY PROCESS ACROSS IEEE 802.3AF/AT/BT PROTOCOLARTICLEAlthough there are various power supply types, this article will focus on Power over Ethernet (PoE) power supplies. In particular, PoE power supplies where the power sourcing equipment (PSE) supplies power to the powered device (PD) terminal equipment through the network cable. Figure 1 shows common PoE power supply equipment, including the PoE switch as well as power-receiving equipment (e.g. wir...
