DDR5 CAMM
DDR5 CAMM Content
Description
Compression attached memory modules (CAMMs) and low power CAMMs (LPCAMMs) are new types of memory module form factors designed to address the limitations of traditional DIMM and SO-DIMM modules in laptops and thin desktops.
Their key advantages include:
- Smaller size: CAMM uses a land grid array (LGA) and a compression connection, allowing for a more compact design compared to DIMMs with edge connectors. This frees up space on the motherboard for other components or a slimmer device profile.
- Faster speeds and lower power: The shorter electrical paths within a CAMM module enable higher memory speeds while consuming less power, which is beneficial for performance and battery life in laptops.
- Upgradability: Unlike some soldered memory solutions, CAMM offers upgradability. The modules are secured with screws similar to M.2 drives, allowing users to swap them for increased memory capacity.
Overall, DDR5 CAMMs and LPCAMMs offer a promising alternative for future laptops and desktops, providing a balance between compactness, performance, and upgradability.
MPS provides power solutions such as PMICs and buck converters to support the current and next generation of DDR5-based CAMM and LPCAMM modules.
